MM0018 – Congado em Mogi das Cruzes – SP (2009)
Mogi das Cruzes is an important city for the congado of São Paulo. Originally there was only the Moçambique Paulista and Congada, demonstrations characteristic of São Paulo state. Due to the immigration of mineiros and paulistas from other cities of the state, this congado was renewed. Today there are 6 groups that maintain this tradition. The realization of this album aims to help these groups to have more respect within their neighborhoods and city. It is vital for the perpetuation of traditions that groups can strengthen their relationships in communities. We can get to know a little of this congado that has the São Paulo tradition and the Minas Gerais region of Santana dos Montes, Carandaí and Conselheiro Lafaiete and the exchanges that these traditions have made in these 50 years of conviviality. This achievement is also important for the Mundo Melhor label, since it is the third one held through a public announcement from the state government of São Paulo, through ProAC, a program that covers all areas of artistic and cultural creation in the state. We hope that more and more public agencies and their agents can understand the importance of these traditions for our Brazilian identity. We believe in a Xavante saying “One only respects what one knows”. Making these traditions public for better knowledge and respect is the main purpose of Mundo Melhor label.
